A short shifters descripition is dat it reduces the throw by 40-50%. what is the throw??? Does this make the car faster generally speaking!!!

throw = the distance the gear lever moves inbetween gears, the short shifter reduces the gear change times slightly by reducing the distance you need to move the gear lever.
Will improve acceleration, but all depends on how quickly the driver can press and release the clutch as well as changing gear

Since the throw (the distance the gear shift moves) is shorter is takes less time to move the shifter the required distance between gears. This converts into faster shifts and less time without power going to the wheels. Thus the car is faster.
Short shifting is also the practice of shifting at lower RPMs, in order to save fuel.

I don't know as much as some of the techies, but I've seen the different kinds of manual transmissions, where the stick shift is; Some are real long, you throw from 1st to 2nd a long ways. Some of the sportier faster cars have a small tight area of shifting, where you don't have to move the stick that far.
