I am assuming you are a non-American. And I can assure you that NASCAR is indeed a sport, and a sport with a huge fan base. Many people (all over the world, might I add) enjoy and are loyal to NASCAR racing and other motor sports. It, like all sports, has it's own stereotypes. However, it is a very interesting sport to watch, and I happen to be a huge fan.

Also, there are road courses in NASCAR racing, where the drivers make left and right turns! I don't find going in a circle to be that easy. Just think for a moment...you (the driver) are going 190 miles an hour on a super speedway along with 42 other drivers, all going that speed and all trying to pass you. You and your crewchief must have strategies to get on pit road the fastest, pass cleanly on the track, and get the most points you can. You need to do test runs, practices, and make appearances for the fans. All that, plus the respect, money, and pride that are on the line each time you race anywhere. That's a whole lot to do!!! I'd love to see YOU master all that.

It is cheaper & more of a controlled environment to have the race tracks contained in a single stadium then if they were roaming all over the countryside in their race cars. it is easier to film and above all it is SAFER for the drivers. Basically it is practical, organized and just makes more sense and apparently it isn't an issue to the millions of Nascar fans around the world.

Would we rather watch generic little MR. BEAN esque cars zoom around the European countryside?....seems completely unmasculine and idiotic but opinions are like a s s h o l e s right? Everybody's got one. Americans do it Bigger and Better. deal with it.

Why do Europeans think F1 is so cultured?

And why do Europeans ASSUME that ALL the NASCAR races are on oval tracks, when there are two road courses on the Nextel Cup schedule...Infineon and Watkins Glen? Oh yeah, they're both in America..so you've never heard of them.

And by the way, we have NHRA drag racing..which is not 'going in circles'...but you Europeans would probably be too scared to strap yourself into an NHRA funny car or Top Fuel dragster! 200+mph.....you'd probably want your mommy!

How about this: why are there so many rude people on this site that have to keep talking bad about NASCAR? I like my question better. Say this with me, O-V-A-L! The tracks aren't circles, they're ovals! There are also two road courses for your information. I'm just getting tired of seeing questions like this! If you don't like NASCAR fine, but you don't have to talk bad about it. Why do you people waste space on this site by asking dumb questions? Just thought I'd ask that, too.

You should take a look at the tracks that Nascar driver's race. You can see them by visiting nascar.com. Not all tracks are ovals. Pocono, for example, is triangular. There are road course races, too. Next week they will be racing at Watkin's Glen. You should check it out. You may find that it's not as easy as it apparently looks.

they do not all go around in circles,

but the majority that do cater for the live viewers,

if you've ever been to a live track you'll find its rather boring only seeing one part of the track.

at nascar you could see all action from one position

It's a shame that they don't combine Nascar with Grand Prix racing circuits; like the ones they create in cities like Monaco.

That would be much more exciting.

there is only one track that is close to a circle(Bristol) and even there they have short straight aways, most are oval, paperclip, triangle, "D" shaped, have dog legs, they race at road courses. you should educate yourself in nascar and perhaps you will find yourself an American motorsports fan as well!!

Strange? NASCAR tracks at Watkins Glen and Infineon look like road courses to me....... And may other American series like SCCA, Champ car, NHRA & etc. race on things other than ovals.

Why worry about it? You are so clueless, I'm not even explaining Nascar to you, just read the hundred other questions like this and you'll find your answer!

They don't. First of all, they're not circles. They're ovals. Second of all, NASCAR has road courses.

Why do people insist on asking stupid questions?

Lack of imagination, or because the drivers don't want to get lost.

Actually, it makes it harder, as the drivers start to get dizzy. it's like the party game where you blindfold someone, spin them round a few times and get them to walk into someone. Do that with a car in a race and it makes for good TV!

It's a metaphor for life

No matter how fast you go through life

you'll still end up going in circles

It's actually an oval and it's because they have no bottle to take on chicanes etc ! And they don't want to confuse the spectators !

Left hand drive.

Left hand steering.

Left hand brains.
